W.I.P. Wednesday - Hi Ho - Kermit the Frog Here

This isn't really a work-in-progress - it is a finished project but I thought I would share.

My friend, Teresa, has been wanting me to make her a crochet item and she loves Kermit so I decided to try my hand at a crochet Kermit.

I got the pattern from Cecilia Siempre Josefina (a designer on Etsy).

It started out simple enough - making a mouth and a head base

Then I completed the head (which looked like a green pacman to me), the body, legs, arms, eyes and collar. Before assembly, it looked a bit like a biology dissection project or a little green house of horrors.

But after all sewn together, he came out pretty cute and looking like Kermit the Frog

I am pretty pleased with him and I hope my friend, Teresa, will love him.  He is going to be a surprise, can't wait to give him to her.

I Am Baby Groot 3

I mentioned before that I made a Baby Groot for my sister.  I also mentioned that her co-worker liked it and asked for me to make one for her pastor, so Baby Groot 2 was born.

Well...I posted a photo of Baby Groot (original) on a crochet facebook group (because someone wanted to know if anyone had a pattern for one) and one of the people in the group, asked me if I would make HER one too!!

Although she stated she crocheted, she didn't crochet amigurumi.  So...I told her I would!

So...Here is Baby Groot 3.  Maybe I should go into business - Haha!!

Each one is a little bit different (mostly with the vines and leaves and their pots are all different)

He is fun to make but I am ready to move onto something else now.  I have another amigurumi in mind and plan on working on that this week before getting back to my knitted shawl.

Dill Pickle Pasta Salad

Our family reunion is always the first Saturday in May, because that is the Saturday closest to my great-grandmother's birthday, who was born on May 8, 1894.

It is a pot luck style family reunion and we all bring something.  I don't always take something since I travel 5 hours to get there.  However, this year, it worked out that I was able to contribute and thank goodness....my dish was a HIT!!

I made Dill Pickle Pasta Salad.

As I have mentioned before, I am not a fan of pickles (or dill) and right now, I am eating low-carb so I didn't even taste it but everyone that did said they really liked it and one relative gobbled it up and asked to take some home.

So...I am sharing the recipe here.  If you like dill pickles and you like pasta salad, I am sure you will love this.

Dill Pickle Salad
(adapted from Spending with Pennies)

Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb dry shell pasta (about 3 cups)
  • 3/4 cup sliced pickles
  • 2/3 cup cheddar cheese , diced
  • 3 tablespoons finely diced white onion
  • 2 tablespoons fresh dill
  • 1/2 cup pickle juice

Dressing

  • 2/3 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/3 cup sour cream
  • 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 4 tablespoons pickle juice
  • salt & pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Boil pasta al dente according to package directions. Run under cold water to stop cooking.
  2. Toss cold pasta with about 1/2 cup of pickle juice and set aside for about 5 minutes. Drain & discard pickle juice.
  3. Combine all dressing ingredients in a small bowl and mix well.
  4. Toss all ingredients in a large bowl. Refrigerate at least 1 hour before serving.
I used cheddar cheese sticks and just cut them into smaller pieces
I used the small dill pickles and cut into small slices

     Mix all ingredients together.

It looks a little "soupy" at first but the flavors will mix together and the dressing will thicken as it refridgerates.

See, after refrigeration, it is the proper texture

Groot 2 and Movie Review

About 6 weeks ago, I crocheted my sister a Baby Groot.  Her co-worker saw it and said that her pastor loves "Guardians of the Galaxy" and she wanted to know if I would make one for her to give to her pastor as a gift.

So...I made another one - here is Baby Groot 2  (not to be confused with Audrey 2 from Little Shop of Horrors.)

He came out pretty cute, I must say...I used a different green on this one - the leaves are a little brighter and I couldn't find the exact size pot I needed - the other one I made had the perfect sized pot, this one was a tiny bit bigger (or maybe Groot 2 is a little slimmer than Groot 1).  I hope her pastor likes him.

The same day I crocheted this, I saw Guardians of the Galaxy 2 - oh my gosh - so good!! I might even say it was better than the first one - lots of intense moments and Baby Groot was too funny.  I always stay for the credits and the credits had a teen-aged Groot - maybe a hint a Guardians of the Galaxy 3 (hopefully).  I give it 5 out of 5 stars!!
:
Also, unrelated - I saw Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Men Tell No Tales and it was GREAT! - Also 5 out of 5 stars!
