I was thinking about what I was going to make for dinner tonight and decided to look at AllRecipes.com to see what the daily recipes were for today. Lo and behold I recognized one of my photos - it was for the Crab and Shrimp Delight - which I have blogged about before.
That made me go and explore my recipe box stored there, where I was reminded of the Chili Dog Casserole.
Now granted, not the healthiest thing you can eat - in fact I think I just gained 3 lbs reading the name of it. But I've made it a few times when I had guest and they all loved it (or at least said they did). I personally prefer to make it with Hormel Hot and Spicy Chili with Beans but have made it using more mild and w/o beans (because that is how I thought my guest would prefer it).
I haven't made it in a little while but it is good - will have to make again soon.
Chili Dog Casserole
2 (15 oz) cans chili with beans (I like Hormel Hot & Spicy)
1 (16 oz) package beef frankfurters (I prefer Ball Park)
10 (8 inch) flour tortillas (the fajita sized ones)
1 (8 oz) package Cheddar cheese, shredded
Preheat oven to 425 degrees
Spread 1 can of chili and beans in the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish. Roll up franks inside tortillas and place in baking dish, seam side down, on top of chili and beans. Top with remaining can of chili and beans, and sprinkle with cheese.
Cover baking dish with aluminum foil, and bake at 425 degrees for 30 minutes.

I just sent this to my husband so he could have something to be thankful for this year.
@Catherine :)
I thought you had stolen my "white trash enchilada's"! Instead of a hot dog, fill with cheddar cheese and chopped green onions.
So simple and so bad, but so good.
Tried this tonight, and it was delicious!
Will be trying this sometime this week, thanks!
I made it the night I found it - All I can say is OMG sooooooooo Good!
Will DEFINITELY be trying this soon, yummy!
Getting ready to try this recipe :) thanks so much for posting it. I'm not the best cook and I'm always looking for something quick, simple, and easy to make that is delicious. This is definitely something everyone in my family will love. Thanks!
I am trying this tonight
Just had this casserole for dinner. Added a few tortilla chips (South of the Border, of course) on the side and it was yummy! I used whole wheat tortillas, and they were very good.
@Wanda - terrific! Glad you liked it, anyone I know that has tried it seems to enjoy it. Thanks for the comments
Can I freeze and heat up the next day?
I'm a house parent at a children's home in Alabama. I think I just found our new favorite recipe. Thanks for sharing this one.
Making this tonight it sounds so good and something my four year old will love. Thanks so much for the post!!
Um...wow! I made this for dinner tonight and was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. Used the Hormel Hot N' Spicy and mixed in a little enchilada sauce to the second can of chili for the top. Served with a dollop of sour cream and some diced red onions. Darn good!
This is what's for dinner tonight! Sounds easy, fast for a ballgame night meal and I am sure my children will like it! I think I'm gonna add some jalapeno peppers on top! Kick it up a notch!
Trying it with Hebrew International Fat Free Franks which only have 40 cals apiece. Also using low fat chili and cheese and gluten free tortillas. Trying to make this delicious sounding casserole as guiltless as possible. I will let ya know how it turns out :)
Making this tonight with homemade chicken chili & turkey franks. So good. Awesome idea. The extended family invited themselves for supper when I told them what I was making. Haha. Sign of a great idea.
Was looking for comfort food and I think I found it....making this tonight!!! What a great twist to chili dogs, makes it more adult style.
Im going to be making this tonight!! My boyfriend said it sounds good so were gonna give it a shot.
Just made this for dinner and it's wonderful! I couldn't find the spicy chili so I used Hormel's chili with beans but then added a can of rotel tomatoes on top to give it some kick. I also used whole wheat tortillas.
We just ate this for dinner and it was a hit! This is the first recipe that I have cooked from pinterest that my husband actually liked and wants again :) yay!!! I used bun length hotdogs, and next time im going to sprinkle a little cheese as I wrap them and I might just put a vidalia onion in with mine too...Love from Savannah!
Found on pinterest, my husband is a picky eater but there isn't one thing he won't love about this meal! Thanks!
My dad gave me a recipe similar to this years ago. It is called Frank and Chili Manicotti. So instead of the tortillas, it calls for manicotti noodles that you put the hot dogs in, then I use regular Hormel chili with beans and Mozarella cheese. It has been a family favorite for us. I will be trying your recipe soon! Thanks!
I only have a pan. What do I need to change to make it work?
Hi Ashley, I'm not sure I understand your question properly but you only need one dish to make this.
Just place a little chili in the bottom, roll hot dogs inside tortillas, lay on top of chili, cover with remaining chili then top with cheese.
If you don't have a 9 x 13 casserole dish, try the local dollar store. You can get an aluminum one there for $1. The advantage of that - no dish to wash afterwards :-)
Hope you enjoy, let me know if you still have questions.
Kind of skerred, but I'm trying it for dinner tonight, lol. I'll post again after we eat it!
LOVE IT
Sounds like my easy enchiladas. I use corn tortillas. First i soften the tortillas by quickly frying them (not allowing to crisp) and fill them with cheese, then top with the chili n cheese. :-)
My son use to love those Fried burritos at the stores so I use to take and put a Frank with Chilli and cheese Fold it like a burrito and deep fry.... He loved them. So did I actually!
oh, yes! I have about 14 packs of hotdogs in my freezer, and I was wondering if there was some way to make them a little more tasty. I just happened upon this recipe on Pinterest. I look forward to making it with homemade chili and whole wheat tortillas. YUM!!
This looks so yummy! My husband and I made a chili dog pizza once and it was heavenly! Anything with chili dogs has to be good!!!! I'm going to have to try this recipe out.
I Finally made it and it was a big hit, especially with my youngest. It will definitely be made many more times.
Great !!! So glad it was a hit!
I wonder if it would be good with turkey chili, turkey hot dogs, whole wheat tortillas and low fat cheese? I may have to see if it still will taste as sinful even though it won't be quite so bad!
TOP IT WITH FRIES OR TATOR TOTS AS YOU BAKE IT OR A NEW TWIST.
Made it a couple of times, and tonight I am trying a lower fat version with Hormel Vegetarian Chili, fat free hot dogs, fat free cheddar cheese, and whole wheat tortillas. I bet it is just as good! :)
This was AWESOME, I made it last night. I just wanted to tell you that I "healthified" it a bit. I used high fiber whole wheat tortillas, 50 cal., with Turkey dogs, and turkey chilli that I had made for dinner a couple of nights before, withe reduced fat cheese. EXCELLENT! In fact I am having it for lunch right now.
I have this in the oven now. I forgot to cover it with foil. :-/ till half way through. Hope it still turns out.
Very good. My whole family enjoyed it. I sprinkled sweet onions over the top and it was delish!
Do you think this would work using crescent rolls instead of tortillas?
I'm sure crescent rolls would work as well but the texture may be a little different - it is always worth trying another variation - if you do, let us know how it was.
AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME!!!!
We loved this!!! It was just like Sonic Chili Cheese Dogs!!!
we made this the other nite and it was amazing. we changed it up a bit. using homemade chili with beans, and i cut the tortillas to fit my pan so i used little tortilla strips for extra crispy yummies on top. i hope you don't mind i linked you on my fb picture. :) thanks for the yummy ideas.
i have had this pinned for a while and im finally making this tonight. thank you for the kid friendly recipe
I'm making this tonight. I hope it's as good as it looks
Thank you. I found this on pinterest and gave it a try tonight. Reminds me a little of weiner wraps from grade school 30 years ago.
I'm going to try making a box of Jiffy cornbread with added diced green chiles, then spreading on top of casserole before baking....should be a Chili Cheese Corn Dog recipe!
This is fantastic! The nice thing is you can add other ingredients if the original recipe isnt enough! Thanks for sharing...
I just made these and my 17-year old son ate 4 of them!! After putting aside a couple for my husband, he said that the rest were for his midnight snack! A keeper, for sure :)
Thank you so much for sharing this recipe!! I made it tonight and used Hormel chili with beans because me and my father do not like the spicy Hormel chili with beans, i also used mild cheddar cheese. My father is a picky eater, but tonight he really liked it as did I! Thank you! :)
Thanks for the comments everyone - so glad everyone is enjoying this recipe.
I LOVE comments, so if you are a new visitor or have tried this, feel free to share.
At home sat.night, we had this last week at our daughter in laws.she a very good cook.
Baking this now! I think my husband wont stop drooling over it and it's not ever ready.
Thanks so much for the very easy, yummy, cost efficient recipe!
In the oven right now!
This looks so good for a cold day! I am going to use my homemade chili, as I don't care for canned chili. Thanks for this simple and delicious recipe!
That looks really good. Now if i could only get my son to eat beans.. He will not eat any kind of bean, green or otherwise..
I love it with the beans but you can make it using bean-less chili or even homemade chili.
I love it with the beans but you can make it using bean-less chili or even homemade chili.
Love it...have everything on hand and it will be our Bronco food for the afternoon. Thanks!!! And go Broncos!!!
Fixed this for dinner this evening. Very easy and fast to make. Added some onions and lots of cheese. Great meal and no mess. Will make this more often. Thanks for sharing.
I made this tonight. Found the recipe on Pinterest. I made a few little tweaks. -
-First I browned the hot dogs on the stove before rolling them
-I used a colby/cheddar cheese mix
-I also added one onion (chopped)
-I used one can hormell chilli with beans and one without beans
-I put some cheese and onion inside the tortilla with the hot dog before I rolled them up
- And I sprinkled some taco sauce over the tortillas before I sprinkled the remaining cheese over the top.
It was delicious, everyone loved it!
Thank you for sharing!
I made these today and they were delicious! Only thing I changed was adding Chili Cheese Fritos on top. Mmm!
I made this over 25 years ago... haven't since. Too much sodium!
My husband and I both didn't care for these. We ended up throwing them out.
Our entire family LOVED this! It was easy to make and very tasty. I used chili without beans because my kids won't eat beans but that was the only change I made. Delicious!
Six more minutes till this comes out of the oven....can't wait to try it! I couldn't find the hot and spicy Hormel so just used regular. After reading some of the other posts I pulled it right back out and added some chopped onion and jalapenos slices on top. I will let you know how we like it. :)
They were a HIT! It was a bit doughy for me but I bought Super Soft tortillas so that may be why. Can't wait to try it with the Hot and Spicy! Thanks! I think I will line the casserole dish with foil next time for super easy clean-up for a super easy Supper. :)
Trying this tonight! My hubby loves hot dogs and chili so he should love this recipe. Thanks for sharing!!
Hmmm, can you say Super Bowl Party? May have to go shopping tomorrow before we go to the party!
In the oven right now! Superbowl diner. Hopefully everyone likes this! I added some onion before the cheese and put cheese in the shells before the hotdogs. Cant wait!

Hope that helps. Thanks again. So glad you love it enough to share!
Thank you so much for this recipe. I made it tonight and the whole family loved it. I love how easy and quick it was and that it only took four ingredients. Thanks again.
One of my favorite childhood treats were hot dog enchiladas...very similar to this recipe, using enchilada sauce instead of chili and corn tortillas instead of flour. YUM!
We r so having this tonight I thing some fritos will be good with the extra chilie YUMMY Ty for sharing
Love this variation. Used to make this with refried beans, shili I(Hormel, of course) onions, cheese and hot dog in the flour tortilla a zillion years ago, loved it. Haven't done this in a long time - forgot how delish this is....thanks for your version.
Loved this recipe!!! The family, loved this recipe! I can't wait to make it again but next time I will use my homemade chili, yum!
I thought you used crescent rolls ( should read directions before making). Regardless my kids and husband loved them.
Made this last night for my husband and he loved it! Quick and easy!! He put a little sour cream on top.
I put refried beans on the bottom instead of the chilli so good
This sounds so AWESOME I will be cooking this yummy.
Can you make these and freeze them for a later date? Thanks
I've never frozen them but I would think they would freeze okay.
I am making them for the 3rd time in 3 weeks. AND THEY ARE REALLY YUMMY. I put sour cream. Guacamole and chopped tomatoes on the when they are served. Thanks so much for this post!!!
