November 2023 Project Life

 My goodness...I have really gotten behind on updating my blog.  Here are my November 2023 Project Life pages.

A big highlight of the month was that I got to meet Micky Dolenz of the MONKEES!!  I've been a Monkees fan as long as a I can remember, so practically my entire life!  I did have an interaction with Micky, Davy and Peter once at the Hotel Rivinia in Atlanta, but I wouldn't exactly call that a "meeting".  I saw them in person and they signed a few things for fans.  Of course, I've seen them several times in concert, but unfortunately never all four at the same time.  I saw Davy, Peter and Micky 4 times and I saw Micky and Mike once (a few months before Mike passed).  

It is a bit sad that all of them, except for Micky, are gone now.  

Another part of the hightlight of meeting Micky, 3 members of R.E.M. were also there, since Micky was promoting his new album, "Dolenz Sings R.E.M." - Michael Stipe, Peter Buck and Bill Berry were all there.  At one point I turned around and Michael Stipe was literally standing right behind me.  It was a fun day.

Lego Monkees

How cute is this?  This video was made by an 8 year old boy - he re-created the Monkee's TV show opening using legos and other toys.

Monkees - Riu Chiu

I'm watching a Monkees marathon today on Antenna TV.  I wish it didn't take something like Davy's death to have a channel show the Monkees - they should be showing the reruns anyway !

Anyway . . .  while watching the Christmas
episode (with the very cute Butch Patrick,
I might add), they showed them sing Riu Chiu.
I always loved this.  I know it isn't Christmas
but I don't want to wait 9 months to post
this so I am posting it now.  It just shows
how talented they truly are !!

Davy Jones

I got an e-mail today from friends telling me that Davy Jones had died of a heart attack at 66 - at first I thought "please let this be one of those false twitter things" but it wasn't - I had some tears fall - I love the Monkees so much!  It is really hard to believe that Davy is gone.

I'm SO LUCKY that I got to see the Monkees in Concert last June, especially since not too long after I saw them, the rest of the shows were cancelled (never did find out why but they said it was business reasons).  As you can see from my BLOG POST about the concert, one of the hightlights for me was when Davy sang "Daddy's Song" (from the movie Head) - he was dressed in white tux and tails and on the screen behind him, they showed the clip from Head.  He danced right along with it (he still had it !).  One of my fave parts of the show.

So... in tribute to Davy, here is that clip from Head... Daddy's Song

Photo Challenge - Final Photos

I've enjoyed doing the photo challenge posted by FatMumSlim.  Here are my last 2 photos for the month.  While I enjoyed the challenge, I've decided that a month is enough.  I am going back to my normal photo a day picture taking (which I post on Shuttercal) but I'm glad I did a challenge and actually stuck with it the entire month !  If you are interested in doing a challenge, she has her March challenge already posted.

Monkee's Box Set - Volume 1

Monkees 45th Anniversary Concert !

Last night I went to Chastain Park Amphitheater to see THE MONKEES !! Oh my stars - the show was sooooo good !!! Atlanta was their first stop on the U.S. Tour.

It was filled with Monkee hit after Monkee hit.

We got there a bit early (since parking is not great there and we wanted a good spot) - I'm glad we did because the park lot we were in sits up on a hill and you can look down into the Amphitheater so we got to watch them do sound check and rehearse. Peter wasn't on stage for that but Davy and Mickey were so we got a little sneak peek at the show.

The show started about 30 minutes later than scheduled but was well worth the wait.

They had a big screen on stage and throughout the whole show they would show scenes from their TV show and some behind the scenes footage (like them rehearsing or sitting at the airport, etc)

The band started of with a musical medley of Monkee songs, then Davy, Mickey and Peter came out.

Then they took an intermission. During the intermission, they showed commercials from Kelloggs Rice Krispies, Kool-Aid and Yardley Black Label Cologne - cute !

When they came back, Mickey and Davy had changed shirts. Davy was wearing THIS shirt - yeah an Atlanta Braves Tomahawk Chop shirt - cool!
