Yesterday, I heard an old and very random song "The Battle of New Orleans". I smiled, then I cried, then I smiled and then I cried - a lot. My dad would sing around the house but he only knew a few songs - he tended to sing songs from the late 50s/early 60s and mostly what is now considered Classic Country. It was the music of his youth.
I wonder now did he somehow channel this song so I would hear it as a way of letting me know he is still with me?
He didn't know all the lyrics (or if he did, he didn't sing them all) but he did know the chorus - especially the part about "where the rabbit couldn't goooo"
So....here it is - The Battle of New Orleans Johnny Horton, from the Ed Sullivan show - 1959
